I love La Marmotte. I had a famous meal there about three years ago where my wife was pregnant with our first daughter, and I ended up drinking for two, as they say. With La Marmotte's famous wine list, I had a wonderful meal with lovely pairings, times two! I like to go there once or twice a season, so with my wife's cousin Lindsay in town from Boston this past weekend, we decided to make out bi-season pilgrimage to one of Telluride's finest.
The ambiance in La Marmotte is one of my favorites in Telluride. The brick wall interior makes me feel like I'm in a funky French Bistro in Greenwich Village and the art on the walls and the piped in jazz music only add to that effect. But it's the menu that keeps me coming back. Every night La Marmotte offers up a Three Course prix Fixe for $40. Some items are a little more, but well worth it.
The three of us all ordered different appetizers, main courses, and desserts and sampled each other's selections. I had the Pan Seared Sweetbreads and Deep Sea Scallops to start, the Grilled Beef Tenderloin as a main course and the Molten Chocolate Cake with espresso ice cream for dessert. It was délicieux! My wife had the Roasted Beet Salad, Roast Organic Chicken, and Rocky Mountain Crumble. Hers was savoureux! And Lindsay had the Hot and Cold Shrimp, Rice Paper Wrapped Halibut, and the Pistachio Sunday. Superbe! Add to that a fine bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape '05, and a few double espressos, and we had another wonderful evening at La Marmotte. Although it is one of the more expensive restaurants in Telluride, its worth it for the ambiance, food, and wine. If your in the mood for French, head to La Marmotte.
